About AFASAL
AFASAL (Asociación Ibérica de Fabricantes de Sal - Iberian Association of Salt Manufacturers) is a non-profit association founded in 1986, whose purpose is to defend, co-ordinate and promote the collective professional interests of its members (salt producers based in the Iberian Peninsula) by stimulating and contributing towards the development of the salt industry.
Some of its objectives are: to promote initiatives for industrial programmes and expansion in salt production and use; to develop health and hygiene in the salt industry; to establish reliable statistics on the production, use and marketing of salt by geographical zone and product type; and to intervene in the work relations with trade unions to reach collective agreements.
Aims of the association
- To increase the demand for salt through research, the development of rules and relations with the Authorities whose policies and programmes affect salt usage.
- To predict initiatives for industrial programmes and expansion in the production and usage of salt or its derivatives, reducing any possible contamination to the environment.
- To develop health and safety and the best working conditions in the salt industry as well as in that of its derivatives.
- To establish reliable censuses and statistics on the production, use and marketing of salt by geographical zones and product type.
- To promote programmes to improve the results of salt companies and the situation of their staff.
- To represent the point of view of the salt industry to all relevant authorities on production, safety, contamination, taxation, manufacturing or usage processes, registered brands, marketing, etc.
- To inform the general public, salt users, consumers and other stakeholders of the merits and advantages of salt products and of the importance of salt in all its applications.
- In line with article 7 of the Constitution, to intervene in work relations, collaborating with trade unions to defend and promote the pertinent economic and social interests. In particular, to reach collective work agreements and act as the institutional representative to Public Entities, in line with that established in article 82 and the Sixth Additional Regulation of the Workers’ Statutes.
